<pre>The Story of Prophet David's Regret After Lowering the Earthworm

Feeling more right and better than other beings is a feeling of shame in the sight of God and humans. This feeling is an embryo of arrogant nature, even called arrogant itself. Nobody knows who is better than God except God himself. Allah says;

فَلَا تُزَكُّوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اتَّقَى

“Do not cleanse yourself because only He knows best who is fearful.”

In line with this verse, the Prophet reminded his friends to not feel each other the most right and good. This warning is important so that the friends do not feel better because they have already converted to Islam, are closer to the Prophet SAW, often interact with the Prophet SAW, and others. All that does not guarantee glory unless it is based on devotion to God. The Prophet said:

لاَ تَزَكُّوا أَنْفُسَكُمُ اللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِأَهْلِ الْبِرِّ مِنْكُمْ

“Do not cleanse yourself. Verily Allah knows better who is better among you. “

Even against other creatures, you should not feel better. The Prophet David had to be sorry and repent to God because he had humbled and felt more valuable than the earthworm. The story of Prophet David's regret was written by Imam Al-Ghazali in the following Mukasyafatul Qulub book;

Once the Prophet Dawud sat at his place of worship while reading the book of Zabur, then he was shocked to see a red worm on the ground. So the Prophet Dawood whispered in his heart, “What is the meaning of Allah creating this earthworm?”

By Allah's permission, this worm could also speak.

“O Prophet of Allah, know that during the day God gives me inspiration for dhikr in a day by reading “Subhanallah walhamdulillahi wala ilaha illahu wallahu akbar 'a thousand times”, said the earthworm.

He continued, “While at night Allah gives me inspiration to pray by reading' Allahumma sholli 'ala sayyidina muhammadin nabiyyil ummiyyi wa 'overtakes wa shohbihi wa sallim' a thousand times. “

” Then what do you read so I can benefit from you? “, asked the land cat to Prophet David.

Conscious of his mistake, the Prophet David did not answer the question of earthworms. He was only aware of his oversight and regretted having considered a low earthworm. He then felt afraid of Allah, repented and surrendered to Him.
