Who does not know this one scholar, he is a great Islamic scholar from Syria who is most keen to defend Ahlussunnah wal Jama'ah from the attacks of groups who claim to be true Muslims.
In times of traditions such as the Prophet's birthday , Aswaja's other dhikr and practices were criticized by groups claiming to be true Muslims, Shaykh Al-Buthi was present and counter thoughts which misled the practice of Aswaja followers.
He was fully named Muhammad Said Ramadhan al-Buthi bin Mulla Ramadhan ibn Umar al-Buthi, was born in Buthan (Turkey) in 1347 AH / 1929 AD. He was born of a religious family, his father Sheikh Mulla Ramadhan was a great scholar in Turkey. But after the coup d'etat Kemal Attatruk and secularization of Turkey, the little Shaykh Al-Buthi was brought by his father to Syria.
His intellectual journey began with studying religion to his father, namely by studying the aqeedah, then Sir ah Prophet, and the science of tools.
At the age of 4 years, Shaykh Al-Buthi was able to memorize the book Alfiyah whose number of stanzas contained 1002 stanzas, and also memorized Nadzam Ghayah wa al-Taqrib .
In addition, Sheikh Al-Buthi also studied at Ma'had at-Taujih al-Islamy Damascus, under the guidance of Sheikh Hasan Habanakah and completed his education in 1953 AD
His father and Sheikh Habahanakah, is a teacher who is very influential in the life of Sheikh Al-Buthi. From Shaykh Habanakah, Syekh Al-Buthi took a lesson related to the attitude of a cleric towards the ruler.
One time Sheikh Habanakah was invited by the ulamas to carry out a movement against the government, but Sheikh Habanakah refused, because it was unclear who moved him. This was then taken and modeled by Sheikh Al-Buthi.
In 1954 AD, Sheikh Al-Buthi continued his studies at Al-Azhar University with a specialization in sharia, until he obtained a doctorate from Al-Azhar University. Even his dissertation entitled “ Dlawabit al-Maslahah fi Asy-Syaria'ah al-yyah “, obtained a recommendation from Al-Azhar University as a work worthy of publication.
Shaykh Al-Buthi is a scholar a multidisciplinary, namely scholars who are able to solve problems with various scientific perspectives, and master various scientific disciplines in Islam. It is rare to find scholars who master all disciplines equally. For example, if someone is proficient in fiqh, then usually in other fields it is not so prominent. But Sheikh Al-Buthi is a rare scholar, and reminds us of the figure of Imam Al-Ghazali.
In his daily life, Shaykh Al-Buthi was busy teaching at Damascus University and several mosques such as the Tinkiz Mosque, Al-Imam Mosque and Al-Umawi Mosque. In addition, he also actively participates in world-class seminars and conferences, both as a resource person and others.
Sheikh Al-Buthi is a productive scholar. He wrote many books in various scientific disciplines. Recorded his works reached 70 titles. In addition, Sheikh Al-Buthi also has several programs on radio and television as a means to spread his knowledge, such as Dirasat Qur'aniyyah on Syrian TV stations, Hadza Huwa Jihad on Azhari TV station etc.
This productive multidisciplinary scholar is a Sufi who is also a defender of freedom in the four madhhab. As a defense scholar Ahlussunnah wal Jama'ah and a follower of the Shafi'i school, Shaykh Al-Buthi was so persistent in rectifying various heresies and heretical accusations from the Salafi-Wahhabi circles.
Even Shaykh Al-Buthi wrote a special book that discusses the thoughts brought by the Salafi-Wahabi group, namely As-Salafiyyah; Marhalah Zamaniyah Mubarakah la Madzhab and Al-Lamadzhabiyyah Akhtaru Bid'ah Tuhaddid Asy-Syari'ah yyah .
In addition, Sheikh Al-Buthi also had a somewhat different political view from the Ikhwanul group Muslim. This then became the background of the writing of a book that specifically discusses jihad in Islam, namely Al-Jihad fil Islam; Kaifa Nafhamuhu? Wa Kaifa Numarisuhu? (Jihad in Islam; how we understand and implement it). This book received a lot of criticism from several right Islamic groups.
Sheikh Al-Buthi was a cleric who had a special and unique language style in writing his books. The style of language brought by Sheikh Al-Buthi included many elements of philosophy, manthiq and intellectual terms which were sometimes difficult to understand by laypeople.
In addition, writings written by Sheikh Al-Buthi it is proportional to the theme that it carries and does not deviate from the root of the problem, as well as rich sources of reference, especially the sources of reference taken by the opponents of the debate.
The writing of Sheikh Al-Buthi in his various works shows that he is a creative scholar. He wrote something that had not been written and discussed by the previous scholars, so that everything he wrote was based on the language of the heart, and the clarity of his thinking in seeing the various problems that existed.
Sheikh Al-Buthi died in a state of martyrdom, at the age of 84 year. That is on March 21, 2013 M / 9 Jumadil Awal 1434 H., in a tragedy of a suicide bombing that took place at the Al-Imam Mosque in Damascus, Syria, where he taught. The suicide bombing occurred at a time when he was conducting a routine review of Friday night's interpretation at the mosque.
He died leaving intellectual heritage through his works which reached 70 books. Among his works other than those mentioned above are al-Bidayat Bakurah A'mali Fikriyyah, Al-Madzhab at-Tauhidiyyah wa al-Falsafat al-Mu'ashiroh, Manhaj al-Hadlarah al-Insaniyyah fi Al- Qur'an, Qadhaya Fiqhiyyah Mu'ashirah, Al-Mar'atu Baina Tughyani an-Nizhami al-Gharbi wa Latha'ifu at-Tasyri 'ar-Rabbani, Al-Hikam al-Atha'iyyah Syarh wa Tahlil etc.
